Choose for the couple, not by a number

The best wedding gift fits the couple’s new life, not a price tag. Think about where they’re starting (a first home or a family home), what they love (cooking, coffee, puja, hosting) and what you’re comfortable spending. Then pick one thing they’ll use and remember. The planner above does exactly that.

Shagun, gift or both?

  • A gift they use every day is remembered long after the wedding.
  • Shagun is always welcome and lets the couple choose for themselves.
  • Both is common: a thoughtful gift and a small envelope.

There’s no right amount for shagun or a gift: give what feels right to you. The thought, and a few words in your own hand, matter more.

Why shagun ends in 1

Amounts like ₹501 or ₹1,101 are traditional because the extra rupee is considered auspicious: a round number “ends”, while the added one is a wish for continuity. Many families also tape a one-rupee coin to the envelope.

Giving it the right way

  1. Write your names clearly. Full name and family name on the envelope or tag; gifts get separated at big weddings.
  2. Hand it over personally. Give it to the couple on stage at the reception, or to their parents.
  3. Big gifts go home. Have a dinner set or other large gift delivered to their home after the wedding.
  4. Add a line. A short wish in your own words matters most.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good wedding gift for a couple?

Something for their new life they’ll use often: a kansa dinner set, a copper bottle pair, a brass masala dani or a filter coffee set, chosen by what they love.

Is it OK to give a gift instead of cash?

Yes. A useful gift for their home is often remembered longer than cash.

Why is a one-rupee coin added to shagun?

The extra rupee is considered auspicious, turning a round amount into one that signifies continuity.
