How to use
  1. Light it. Place lit dhoop, loban or a charcoal disc topped with resin in the bowl.
  2. Close the lid. The smoke drifts out in slow curls through the cutwork.
  3. Carry it gently. Hold it only by the handle and walk the fragrance through each room.

The bowl and lid get hot while burning. Set it on a heat-safe surface, away from curtains, children and pets.

Care

Let the dhuni cool completely, empty the ash and wipe it with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid harsh scrubbers on the etched lid.

Brass slowly deepens in colour with use. That patina is natural; to bring back the shine, polish with lemon and salt or a brass cleaner, then dry.

About the dhuni

Indian homes have burned fragrant resins for centuries, a practice Ayurveda calls dhupana. This dhuni carries that ritual from room to room. Its dome is pierced and etched by hand in Moradabad, and the long handle keeps your hand away from the heat.

Small variations in the etching are part of each handmade piece.

Have a Question?

What can I burn in it?
Dhoop, loban, guggal or sambrani on a lit charcoal disc, or dhoop cones. Place it in the bowl and close the lid; the smoke drifts out through the cutwork.
Does it come with dhoop or charcoal?
No. The box has only the brass dhuni, so you can use the dhoop, loban or charcoal discs you prefer.
Does it get hot?
Yes. The bowl and lid get hot while burning. Hold it by the handle, set it on a heat-safe surface and keep it away from curtains, children and pets.
How do I clean it?
Let it cool completely, empty the ash and wipe it with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid harsh scrubbers on the etched lid.
Why is the brass getting darker?
Brass oxidises naturally and builds a warm patina. It isn't damage. If you prefer the original shine, polish it with lemon and salt or a brass cleaner, then dry it.
How big is it?
It stands 14 cm tall and 15 cm wide including the handle, with a 10 cm bowl. It weighs 328 g.
Is it handmade?
Yes. Each dhuni is handcrafted in Moradabad, so small variations in the etching make every piece slightly different.
