What is the Ritual Cup — OUD Kashi?
+
–
Ritual Cup — OUD Kashi is a ceremonial havan cup hand-filled with a sacred blend of oud (agarwood) and traditional Kashi (Varanasi) resins. Built on an Ayurvedic base, it's designed for special occasions, intentional rituals, or moments when you want to create sacred space. Unlike our ritual sticks (which are for daily use), this cup is for ceremonial moments.
What does it smell like?
+
–
Deep, resinous, profoundly grounding.
Oud brings a rich, complex woody aroma—ancient, meditative, and unlike anything else in nature. Kashi temple resins add layers of sacred smoke reminiscent of traditional Indian temple ceremonies. Together, they create an unmistakably ceremonial scent—earthy, warm, deeply spiritual.
If you've ever experienced traditional havan ceremonies, Varanasi ghats at evening aarti, or the scent of temple incense, this will feel familiar yet refined.
When should I use it?
+
–
Best for:
- New moon or full moon rituals
- Diwali, festive celebrations, or auspicious occasions
- Setting intentions for new beginnings
- Gratitude practices or prayer
- Cleansing and purifying space energetically
- Special meditation or spiritual practices
- Honoring transitions (moving homes, career shifts, life changes)
This is not for daily use—it's designed for special, intentional moments.
How do I use it?
+
–
Step 1: Place the cup on a heat-resistant surface (metal plate, ceramic dish, or the included holder)
Step 2: Light the edge of the cup with a match or lighter
Step 3: Allow the flame to establish for 10-15 seconds, then gently blow out if needed
Step 4: The cup will smolder and release fragrant smoke for approximately 20 minutes
Step 5: Sit with intention as the smoke fills your space
Important: Cup will become very hot. Do not touch during or immediately after burning.
How long does it burn?
+
–
Approximately 20 minutes, depending on airflow and environment.
How many cups come in a box?
+
–
Each box contains 12 hand-filled havan cups plus one ceramic holder
Is it safe to use indoors?
+
–
Yes, when used properly:
✓ Burn in a well-ventilated space
✓ Never leave unattended
✓ Keep away from flammable materials
✓ Place on heat-resistant surface (ceramic holder included)
✓ Keep out of reach of children and pets
Our charcoal-free formula produces less smoke than conventional incense, but ventilation is still important.
What makes this "ceremonial"?
+
–
The ingredients and intention.
Oud (agarwood) has been used in spiritual practices for thousands of years across India, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. It's considered sacred in many traditions for its grounding, meditative properties.
Kashi (Varanasi) is one of India's holiest cities, and the resins in this blend are inspired by traditional temple havan ceremonies performed there for centuries.
This isn't casual ambiance—it's for moments that matter.
Can I use it like regular incense?
+
–
You can, but it's not designed for that.
Ritual Cup — OUD Kashi is more intense and ceremonial than our daily-use ritual sticks. Using it daily would diminish its special significance—like wearing formal attire every day.
For daily rituals, we recommend our Morning Clarity, Midday Renewal, or Night Unwind sticks instead.
What is oud (agarwood)?
+
–
Oud is a dark, fragrant resin that forms in Aquilaria trees when they become infected with a specific type of mold. The tree produces this resin as a defense mechanism, creating one of the world's most precious aromatic substances.
It's incredibly rare and has been prized for millennia in spiritual practices, perfumery, and traditional medicine across cultures.
We source our oud responsibly from cultivated plantations (not wild-harvested) to ensure sustainability.
Is oud sustainable?
+
–
Wild agarwood is endangered due to overharvesting. We source exclusively from cultivated plantations in India where Aquilaria trees are sustainably grown and harvested under government regulation.
This ensures we can honor the tradition without contributing to deforestation or species depletion.
What does "Kashi" refer to?
+
–
Kashi is the ancient Sanskrit name for Varanasi, one of the world's oldest continuously inhabited cities and one of Hinduism's seven sacred cities (Sapta Puri).
Our blend is inspired by the traditional havan (sacred fire ceremony) resins used in Kashi's temples for purification, prayer, and spiritual practice.
Is this religious?
+
–
The ingredients and ritual format come from spiritual traditions, but how you use it is up to you.
Some customers use it for Hindu/yogic rituals. Others use it for secular intention-setting, meditation, or simply to mark important moments.
It honors tradition while remaining accessible to anyone seeking to create sacred space—however you define that.
Can non-Hindus use this?
+
–
Yes, with respect and intention.
While the ingredients and format come from Indian spiritual traditions, the act of creating sacred space through fire and fragrant smoke is nearly universal across cultures—from Native American smudging to Catholic incense.
We ask that users approach with genuine respect for the tradition—not as exotic appropriation, but as an honest practice of honoring transitions and moments that matter.
Is it vegan? Cruelty-free?
+
–
Yes. All plant-based ingredients. No animal products. No animal testing.
How should I store the cups?
+
–
Keep in a cool, dry place away from moisture and direct sunlight. The cups are sensitive to humidity, which can affect burning quality.
Store in original packaging until ready to use.
Shelf life: 18 months from manufacture (printed on box).
Can I reuse the cup?
+
–
No. Each cup is designed for one-time use and burns completely, leaving only fine ash residue. The cup itself is consumed in the burning process.
What should I do with the ash?
+
–
Many spiritual traditions return ash to the earth (garden, potted plant, or natural outdoor space) as a completion of the ritual cycle.
You can also simply dispose of it respectfully once fully cooled (24 hours minimum).
Can I use it around pets?
+
–
Not recommended.
The smoke volume is significant, and oud is a strong, penetrating scent. Keep pets in a separate, well-ventilated room during use.
Birds and small animals especially should not be exposed to smoke of any kind.
Will the scent linger in my home?
+
–
Yes. Oud is a tenacious, long-lasting scent that will linger for several hours after burning—sometimes up to 24 hours in fabrics and textiles.
This is intentional—it marks the space as having been transformed by ritual. If you don't want a long-lasting scent, use in a well-ventilated outdoor space, covered patio, or room with open windows.
How hot does the cup get?
+
–
Very hot. The cup becomes extremely hot during burning (200°C+) and remains hot for 20-30 minutes after the smoke stops.
Do not touch. Do not move. Let it cool completely before handling.
Always use the provided ceramic holder and place on an additional heat-resistant surface for safety.
Can I extinguish it partway through?
+
–
Not recommended. Once lit, it's designed to burn fully for the complete 20-minute cycle. Attempting to extinguish may create excess smoke or safety issues.
Plan to let it burn completely. Choose your timing accordingly.
Is this handmade?
+
–
Yes. Each cup is hand-filled with the oud and resin blend, then sun-dried. The ceramic cup itself is traditionally crafted.
Slight variations in appearance, color, and burn time are natural—a sign of authentic, artisanal production.
Where is oud sourced?
+
–
Our oud comes from responsibly managed Aquilaria plantations in Northeast India, where trees are cultivated sustainably under government regulation and CITES compliance.
This ensures we're not contributing to wild agarwood depletion while honoring the traditional use of this sacred ingredient.
Do you ship internationally?
+
–
Not currently. India-wide shipping only. International shipping in development—join our email list for updates.
Can I use this in an apartment?
+
–
Only if you have excellent ventilation—open windows, balcony door, cross-breeze, etc.
The smoke volume is significant and the scent is strong and long-lasting. Not suitable for small, enclosed spaces or apartments with poor airflow.
When in doubt, use outdoors, on a balcony, or in a covered outdoor space.
