Copper Water Calculator
Your weight, the weather and how active you are: get a rough daily water target and how much of it to drink from copper.
How much copper water should you drink a day?
Two to three glasses (500–750 ml) of water kept overnight in copper, first thing in the morning, is a sensible amount for most adults: that’s our suggestion and a common one in Ayurvedic practice. Drink the rest of your day’s water from any clean source. Copper water is a morning ritual, not a replacement for all your water.
How the calculator works
Daily water needs vary a lot with body size, heat and activity. The calculator uses a common rule of thumb of about 33 ml of drinking water per kg of body weight, then adds extra for hot weather and active days. It’s a starting point, not a medical target: thirst, the colour of your urine (pale yellow is good) and your doctor’s advice matter more. Then it sets aside two or three 250 ml glasses for copper water and tells you how much to fill the night before.
Why 2–3 glasses is comfortably safe
| Figure | Value | Source |
|---|---|---|
| WHO guideline for copper in drinking water | 2 mg per litre | World Health Organization |
| Adult upper limit for copper from all sources | 10 mg per day | NIH Office of Dietary Supplements |
| Copper from 750 ml, even at the WHO maximum | 1.5 mg | Arithmetic |
| Copper from 500 ml, even at the WHO maximum | 1 mg | Arithmetic |
Water stored in copper picks up a small amount of copper; studies of copper pots found levels within safe limits after overnight storage.
A simple copper water routine
- Night. Fill the bottle with room-temperature drinking water.

- Anyone with liver or kidney disease, or who has been told to limit copper.
- Pregnant women who want to start a daily copper routine.
- Children: use half the amount, and ask your paediatrician.
