Kansa Dinner Set for 2, 4 or 6: What You Actually Need

Plan one place setting per person: a thali, two katoris, a glass and a spoon (a sweet plate is a nice extra). A couple needs two settings, a family of four needs four. You don’t have to buy everything at once: many families start with one or two settings for daily meals and add more for festivals and guests.

What a household needs

Counts per household, based on one place setting each. Our six-piece set is one full place setting (thali, two katoris, sweet plate, glass, spoon) and weighs about 1.7 kg.

Weights are for our set; other sets vary. Kansa is heavy: plan shelf space that takes the weight.

Start small, then add

Kansa is an investment, and it gets used more when it’s within reach. A common path: buy one or two settings for the people who eat at home every day, use them for a few months, then add settings before a festival or a wedding in the family. Matching pieces are easy to add later if you buy the same design from the same maker.

Which pieces get used most

  • Thali: the heart of the set; the one piece everyone uses at every meal.
  • Katoris: for dal, sabzi, curd or kheer. Two per person covers most meals; some families like three.
  • Glass: for water. Pair it with a copper bottle if you drink water stored overnight.
  • Spoon: one per person.
  • Sweet plate: for mithai, chutney or a side; also lovely for prasad.

Before you order a family set

  1. Count daily eaters. Buy for the people at the table every day first.
  2. Check storage. Kansa is heavy; a sturdy shelf or cabinet near the dining area keeps it in use.
  3. Choose one design. Plain or engraved: pick one so pieces match as you add more.
  4. Plan washing. Kansa is hand-washed and dried; more settings means a few extra minutes after meals.
  5. Think of gifting. A single setting makes a beautiful wedding or housewarming gift.

Frequently asked questions

How many pieces are in a kansa dinner set?

It varies by seller. A typical single place setting has 5–6 pieces: thali, one or two katoris, a glass, a spoon and sometimes a sweet plate. Always check the list.

What should a kansa dinner set for 2 include?

Two thalis, four katoris, two glasses and two spoons, plus a serving bowl if you like. That is two of our six-piece settings.

Is a kansa set for 6 too heavy to use daily?

Each setting is about 1.7 kg, so one person handles one setting at a time; it’s the stack in the cupboard that is heavy. Store it on a strong shelf.

Can I mix kansa with steel?

Yes. Many families use kansa thalis with steel serving ware, or kansa for festivals and steel for weekdays.
